Top genes?
May 2009
Chris Woodhead is quoted by the Guardian as claiming that middle class pupils have better genes. Mr Woodhead, who is chairman of the Cognita group of independent schools and former Chief Schools Inspector, says that some pupils are born not very bright and ministers cannot do anything about that. A child's genes are likely to be better if their parents are teachers or academics, he says, and the nurture is likely to be better too.
