Independent schools are shunning the government's new diploma qualification (starting in September) because it is too complex

The Daily Telegraph reports that, from next year, parents asked to ferry children to sports matches by the organizers will be banned unless they have had their criminal records checked. It says 11 million adults will be vetted.

According to the Financial Times, independent schools are increasingly giving lessons that feed pupils' hearts as well as minds, and develop their social skills.

Meanwhile, the Daily Telegraph covers remarks made by Mrs Beatrice McCabe, of North London Collegiate School, regretting that children's enjoyment of subjects at school had taken a back seat in recent years, as ministers used education as a vehicle to boost basic skills.

Under proposals from the National Council for Educational Excellence (NCEE), university admissions staff may give preferential treatment to pupils from schools performing poorly at A-level, according to the Sunday Times. The government has yet to agree.
